There’s something incredible about October weddings in San Diego, and Morgan and Sam’s La Jolla wedding is proof, for instance! I personally love an October wedding in Southern California because of a number of reasons. The weather is not too hot or cold, the sunset timing is not too early, and the overall lighting is perfect for film photography.
San Diego Wedding Ceremony

Morgan and Sam exchanged vows under a floating chuppah filled with green, white and pink florals in front of Morgan’s parents home. The bride wanted to have a fresh and classy look to her wedding decor, therefore selecting a timeless color palette. I believe if a couple wants to create a timeless quality to their wedding, they should focus on their color palette and then branch out to the details from there. Because they wanted to personalize their ceremony, their close friend Matt officiated the wedding while their guests sat in a semicircle arrangement of white Chiavari chairs, ensuring everyone had a prime view of the bride and groom. I think the chairs themselves added to the upscale look of this San Diego wedding because of their classic color and design.

San Diego Wedding Details
Some of my favorite moments of the day: Morgan’s amazing wedding gown from The Dress Theory San Diego. The surprise fireworks for the bride and groom as they made their grand entrance, lighting up their backyard reception. The touching speeches given by the father of the bride, best man, and matron of honor.
San Diego COVID Wedding
Because of COVID, Morgan and Sam’s October wedding in San Diego didn’t look exactly as they had hoped. But it was still just as spectacular as they had planned. Although the majority of their guests weren’t able to come celebrate their special day in person, people still joined their ceremony via live feed!
Wanting to ensure the safety and comfort of their close friends and family in attendance, the bride and groom (with the planner-extraordinaire help of La Jolla’s Anseth Richards) provided a number of safety measures. There temperature checks, customized face masks, and personalized hand sanitizer, for instance.
When the sun set, guests were given light up face masks which gave a special glow throughout their reception, ensuring their safety and health on the dance floor. They danced the night away on their custom black and white checkered dance floor, built over the middle of the home’s rectangular pool.
San Diego Wedding Reception
Twinkle lights stretched from the La Jolla home across the backyard, therefore lighting up the entire reception area. I felt that the abundance of string lights really made the reception look upscale, in addition to the greenery and dance floor. Sparklers and fireworks set off as the couple made their way into the reception, their guests clinking glasses and cheering. With the groom leading the bride directly into their first dance, they strayed from tradition. Because Morgan and Sam danced to Justin Bieber’s ‘Yummy’, they entertained tons of love and smiles from their guests.
