Emily & Ryan’s Colorful Rancho Valencia Wedding – Terrace Ballroom Reception

Emily and Ryan’s Rancho Valencia wedding was filled with sunshine, abundant florals, thoughtful details, and the people they love most. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, the couple celebrated with a romantic outdoor ceremony followed by a colorful, candlelit reception in the Terrace Ballroom at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa.

The design felt perfectly at home against Rancho Valencia’s warm architecture and lush gardens. Florals by the incredibly talented Olivia Kim of By Olee brought layers of peach, blush, apricot, soft pink, lavender, and greenery throughout the day. From the ceremony aisle to the reception, flowers were everywhere without losing the effortless garden feeling of the property.

Emily wore a fitted lace mermaid wedding gown paired with a full veil and romantic blusher. Ryan kept his look timeless in a classic black tuxedo finished with Ferragamo dress shoes. Together, their formal black-and-white attire was a beautiful contrast against all of the color surrounding them.

The bridesmaids each wore a different dress, with shades of blush, peach, coral, cream, dusty rose, and deeper warm tones creating a palette that felt collected rather than overly matched. Against the greenery and terracotta tones of Rancho Valencia, the mix of colors was especially beautiful in photographs.

A Colorful Ceremony on the Sunrise Patio

Emily and Ryan exchanged vows on Rancho Valencia’s Sunrise Patio, where colorful flowers climbed a bleached-wood trellis and framed the ceremony. The warm Saltillo tile and surrounding greenery complemented the soft peach, pink, and apricot florals beautifully. Rather than a traditional straight aisle, a winding aisle lined with flowers created visual interest and led guests through the intimate setting. Emily’s uncle served as their officiant, making the ceremony even more special. One particularly meaningful detail was Emily’s surprise wedding band, an impactful moment that became part of the story of the day.

Romantic Wedding Portraits Around Rancho Valencia

After the ceremony, we explored the Rancho Valencia property for Emily and Ryan’s portraits. We walked along the tree-lined paths, stopping beneath the olive trees where the late-afternoon sunlight filtered beautifully through the branches. From there, we made our way to the terrace and the property’s signature bridge, taking advantage of Rancho Valencia’s warm architecture, lush landscaping, and quiet corners.

A Candlelit and Colorful Terrace Ballroom Reception

Following the ceremony, the celebration continued with cocktails on the Terrace Patio, before guests entered the Terrace Ballroom for dinner and dancing. The colorful florals flowed indoors, transforming the ballroom with flowers, greenery, and candlelight. The sweetheart table was surrounded by an especially impactful floral installation, while layers of candles gave the room a warm glow as evening arrived.

The reception was also filled with incredibly heartfelt words from the people closest to Emily and Ryan. Emily’s sister and maid of honor, Ryan’s stepdad and best man, and Emily’s father each gave touching toasts. Their speeches made it clear just how loved these two are.

As the dancing began, Emily changed into a short white lace party dressfor the final part of the evening. From there, it was time to celebrate and dance the night away.

One of the things I love most about photographing Rancho Valencia weddings is how much variety the property offers for every celebration. The gardens, Mediterranean-inspired architecture, terracotta walkways and intimate outdoor spaces are beautiful in the afternoon light, while the Terrace Ballroom can take on an entirely different atmosphere after sunset.

Emily and Ryan’s wedding brought all of those elements together: a sun-filled garden ceremony, layers of colorful flowers, meaningful personal details, dinner surrounded by candlelight, and a joyful evening with their favorite people.
